Keratin Guide
Keratin must be natural colors, and appear natural on your import. There is no specific color palette, however there are a few guidelines for picking keratin color:
- Must follow the same saturation limits are markings! Click here to see the saturation guide!
- Colors can either be based on the dinosaur's visible base, or the presence of a marking. For example, a dinosaur with a brown base cannot have green keratin unless it's touching a green marking.
- For color modded dinos, these rules still apply. If you color mod your base, then the keratin must match. If you do not color mod the base, then the keratin must still match
- Colors such as beige, browns, tans, off-whites, dark greys, etc. are acceptable regardless of base color. This also includes brown or yellow tinted horns!
- Keratin cannot be pure white or pure black

Gradients
Keratin may feature a subtle gradient if you so desire! The keratin does not need to be affected by a marking to display a gradient.
Incorrect Gradient:
Striping
Sometimes when a marking touches keratin, it may create striping! To create striping there must be a marking causing it. Striping must also lighten the horn color if the marking touching it is lighter, and must darken the horn color if the marking touching it is darker and must be within acceptable contrast ranges for that marking.
Incorrect Striping:
Optional Keratin
Areas on an import labelled as 'optional keratin' may be treated as keratin or can be toggled off and treated as skin. This means that you have the option to hide the optional keratin layer(s), color that area with your skin color, and use markings as normal in that area. Or, you can leave the keratin layer enabled and color it according to the keratin rules.
You CANNOT combine these options, meaning you cannot both color this area like keratin but also place markings on top- it must be one or the other.
